Formulas for Google Sheets or Excel
- Amount:
=C2*D2(hours × rate) in each line. - Hours from minutes:
=minutes/60, so 45 minutes is 0.75. - Hours from a start and end time:
=(end-start)*24. - Subtotal:
=SUM(E2:E20); tax=subtotal*rate; total = subtotal + tax.
Tips that get you paid faster
- Write descriptions your client will recognize, not internal task names.
- Round consistently (for example to 0.25 hours) and say so in your terms.
- Mark lines as invoiced in your timesheet so you never bill the same hours twice.
- Include a pay link; it removes a step for the client.

The template works, but every month you copy hours across by hand. In Hourledge the timer records hours against a client and rate, unbilled time is grouped by client, and one tap makes a draft invoice with dated lines, optional tax and a PDF with your logo, bank details and a Stripe or PayPal pay link. Questions
How do I invoice for hours worked?
List each date or task with a short description, the hours (in decimals), your hourly rate and the line amount. Add the subtotal, any tax and the total, plus an invoice number, issue and due dates, and how to pay.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25, 30 is 0.5, 45 is 0.75, so 2 hours 20 minutes is 2.33 hours.
Can I use this template in Google Sheets or Excel?
Yes. Download the CSV and open it in Google Sheets (File > Import) or Excel. The amount column is hours × rate; add a SUM at the bottom for the subtotal.
Is there a way to skip the template?
Yes. In Hourledge the timer records hours against a client and rate, and one tap turns unbilled time into an invoice and PDF. Free during early access. One simple flat price later, no per-seat fees.
